About Lucinda Williams
For more than 45 years, Lucinda Williams has set the musical bar by blending Americana, blues and country for a singer-songwriter sound all her own. After several albums that were critical if not commercial successes, Williams became a mainstream sensation in 1998 — at the tender age of 45 — when she released Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. She’s continued aging like a fine wine, scoring her first Billboard top-10 record in 2008 and winning the 2015 Americana Album of the Year Award.
Hailing from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lucinda was the daughter of a poet and a pianist, and she began writing at age six. She is notorious for taking her time — but that’s because she values quality over quantity. It’s paid off to the tune of three Grammys and a spot on numerous Greatest Ever lists.
Lucinda Williams Guitar Strings
Unlike some top artists, Lucinda Williams switches guitar string brands depending on the axe in her hands — showing she’s true to the sound rather than the label. When she’s playing her trusty Gibson J-45 acoustic, Williams exclusively uses D’Addario EJ17 Phosphor Bronze Medium Guitar Strings. Their blend of brightness and warmth allows her to rock out or play tender moments without switching guitars.
The switch to Lucinda’s Fender Classic Series ’72 Telecaster Thinline electric guitar also means a switch to Ernie Ball Cobalt Power Slinky 11-48 Guitar Strings. The heavier gauge lends itself to rhythm strumming while the cobalt construction has a stronger pickup connection for more clarity and sustain — not to mention a long-lasting string for weeks on the road.
