Your guitar takes care of you. It provides you infinite learning and enjoyment. Maybe it even earns you a living or a sort of living.

In turn, you should take care of your guitar. That includes storing and transporting it in a quality case that protects it from dings, dents and breakage by muscular air baggage handlers and others.

But you also need to baby your guitar when it's inside its protective case for other reasons. Too much moisture or too little can damage it. Problems can improve warping, cracking and other damage. Ideally, you want to provide your instrument with a modified Goldilocks environment - not too dry and not too wet. Relative humidity of 45 to 50 percent should be just right.

To give your guitar the Goldilocks treatment it deserves, D'Addario brings you Boveda's patented technology as part of our instrument care line. The D'Addario Two-Way Humidification System (formerly Humidipak) is the only maintenance-free, two-way humidity control system for guitars.

This system automatically maintains the optimal 45-50% relative humidity level within your instrument case, eliminating the guesswork and potential mess related to refilling a humidifier. Unlike refillable humidifiers, this system provides true "two-way" purified humidity control by adding and removing moisture on demand. No more manual adjustments based on seasonal changes, geographic locations, temperature or other factors.

The Two-Way Humidification System comes with three Humidipaks and two soft mesh pouches that will not harm your instrument's finish. These packets last between two and six months. You should always keep them in a sealed environment, like a hard-shell case. Once the packets become firm, discard and replace them using the three refills that come in the D'Addario Two-Way Humidification Replacement Pack (PW-HPRP-03 - sold separately).

This all-new, reformulated, patented two-way humidification system maintains 45-50% relative humidity, which eliminates all maintenance and guesswork. This system is recommended by Taylor guitars and others for maintaining the stability and playability of your instrument.

  • The first two-way humidity control that maintains a constant 45%-50% relative humidity level within your instrument's case
  • Protects your instrument against warping, cracks and other damage cause by lack of humidification
  • Unlike with refillable humidifiers, there will be no more manual adjustments based on seasonal changes, geographic locations, temperature or other factors
  • Eliminates the guesswork and anxiety of maintaining your instrument's proper humidity level
  • No water, no drips, no mess
  • Custom made by Boveda for D'Addario

HUMIDIPAK FAQs

  • What is the #1 cause of all instrument repairs?

Lack of humidity is the leading cause of all instrument repairs. It is essential to humidify all wooden instruments.

  • How do I recognize symptoms of a dry instrument?

A dry instrument can be recognized by a number of symptoms. Sharp fret ends, neck bow, sunken top, lifted bridge, lower string height, notes starting to buzz, cracking of the neck and/or body, or change in tone of the instrument.

  • Which Humidipak do I need?

If your instrument is not already too dry, Humidipak Maintain will maintain a constant relative humidity level inside your case. If your instrument is dry and needs to first be brought back to the proper relative humidity level, use Humidipak Restore.

  • How often should I replace my Humidipak?

Humidipaks typically last between two to six months for an instrument that is already preconditioned to 45%-50% relative humidity. They should be replaced when the packets begin to feel hard or every six months maximum, whichever comes first.

  • What temperature should I keep the room my instrument is stored in?

It's important to maintain a consistent temperature in the room where your instruments are stored. Anywhere in the range of 70-76 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.
